This is a really easy skirt to make for the spring/summer months. I got this cute, umbrella, knit, fabric at Walmart for $2.50 a yard!
I have 2 yards of fabric, but I only used about a yard and a half. To get started I measured how long I need my skirt and cut my fabric to the proper sized rectangle.
Them I cut some lining fabric into a shorter rectangle.
I serged the bottom edge, of the outer and inner fabrics.
I lined them up length-wise, and sewed.
I opened up the fabric and folded the other way....
...pinned and sewed.
I turned the lining fabric over the the umbrella fabric.
Using my elastic I measured how long I would need the fold to be.
I pinned and....
...(you guessed it!) sewed along the pin line, leaving a gape for the elastic to go through.
Make sure to back stitch.
I flipped the lining fabric over to get to the gap.
Put a safety pin on the elastic to help feed it through the casing.
Once you've fed your elastic through, make sure to sew it really well. You
don't want that thing coming apart on you.
Then flip the lining back over, and sew the gap closed.
And you've go a new maxi skirt! Hope you've enjoyed. Have a great day!-Zoe
