DIY: Customized Swim Suit

Have you ever found a really cute one-piece bathing suit, only to find it dose not fit your bust properly, or give you enough support. Well recently, one of my sisters had this problem. We went thrift store shopping, and she found a great bathing suit top, that fit really well. She asked if I could sew it to a bathing suit she already owned and, as I say to all my family members when they ask me to sew something I've never done before, 'I'll try'. And try I did. It turned out pretty well, so I thought I'd share how I did it.

First you obviously will need a one-piece suit and a bathing suit top.
I started cutting off the front of  the suit.

This is what it looks like off. Notice the curve protruding from the fabric. This is perfect for the top I am attaching, you may have to cut it strait, depending on the top you have.

Next I cut off the back. I had to cut off more than is shown in the photo.

I then measured a piece of elastic, that was just a little shorter than the back of my suit.

Then I sewed the fabric, hanging over the back, down to make a casing for the elastic.

I attached a safety pin to the elastic and pushed it through.

Then I sewed down the elastic on both side.

This is what the new back looks like. Time to tackle the front.

There are usually two layers to a bathing suit, the lining and the outer fabric. I pinned them together.

And sewed them, using a small zig zag stitch.

Now it's all ready for the top to get sewn on.

Lining up the middle first, I pinned the top of the suit down.

Then sewed it on.

This is what it looks like from the inside.

And it's done! I hope this was helpful to you. Have a great day! -Zoe Pease of Cute as a Cuttlefish
