Once again, and outfit featuring mustard yellow (one of my favorite colors) and a black&white print. What can I say? I love this combination. Also mustard and denim. I just really like this outfit, all together. It's got my beloved Star Trek Enterprise skirt, my favorite A line silhouette, and my favorite color. What are your favorite go-to color/print combos. DIY: T-shirt to Dress

So this is a big ugly t-shirt, that seams to have some sort of swim team logo on it.

Well no longer! I have turned into a cute dress/tunic with amazing pockets! I've covered the logo with this rad fabric, and made a garment suitable to wear with leggings in the summer or the fall. If you want to see how I did it just scroll down and enjoy.  

First off, I got this super (pun intended) cool, cotton fabric at Walmart. It was like $10 for 3yrds.

So to begin, I cut off the neck of the shirt and the sides. It's a good idea to use a T-shirt that fits you well for reference. Also you could leave the neck hole alone, but I wanted it to be a little looser. 

Now to make a pattern for the piece of fabric to cover the logo. First I traced a roll of duct tape to get a circle for the middle.

Then I used a ruler to make triangle like points all around. I had to be very careful to make it so it would cover the logo properly.  

Then I laid my  pattern over my Marvel fabric, then cut it out.

Next, I laid it over the logo and pinned down.

Then sewed it down, using a a small zig zag stitch. 

Next, I cut out a strip of fabric, from another t-shirt, to finish the hem of the neck. And I also cut off the bottom hem of the shirt. 

Then I cut out two strips of fabric, that were 6in wide. You can make them longer or shorter, depending on how long you want your dress. I pinned them down and... 

..sewed, using a straight stitch and a zig zag stitch.

Next, I cut out 4 pocket shaped pieces of fabric. 

And pin then on both sides of my dress,

making sure to line them up correctly.

Then I sewed all 4 down with a strait stitch.

Now for the neck hole. I'm going to go back to the strip of yellow fabric, I cut from another tee. 

I pinned it, sewed it, opened the stitch, and ....

..folded it over, like so.

Then I pinned it all around the neck, of the dress, and...

...sewed it down, using a zig zag stitch.

Now it's time to sew up both sides, and around the outsides of the pockets.

I did the same sewing technique I've been using for the rest of the DIY. 

Then I hemmed the bottom edge.  

And that was it! I was originally going to sew some sleeves back on, but after trying it on I decided to leave it sleeveless. This dress/tunic is really comfortable an the pockets are great! There are also many variations that could be done, like doing a floral pattern, and cutting out a heart to cover any logo.
